Wood Cuts Bitcoin Target Amid Stablecoin Market Share Gains
Cathie Wood of ARK Invest has reduced her Bitcoin price target by $300,000, citing concerns that stablecoins are capturing market share in emerging economies. According to Wood, stablecoin adoption is scaling faster than projected, and she now believes it warrants lowering the bullish projection.
The total stablecoin market capitalization exceeded $300 billion in 2025, with Tether's USDT and Circle's USDC accounting for nearly $260 billion of that combined supply. Wood sees dollar-pegged stablecoins as tokenized cash, contrasting them with Bitcoin's role as 'digital gold'.
Standard Chartered projects that U.S. dollar-pegged stablecoins could extract over $1 trillion from emerging market banking systems by 2028. Countries facing hyperinflation, sanctions, or currency controls are increasingly adopting cryptocurrency alternatives for wealth preservation.
