Worldcoin Slows Down WLD Token Unlock Rate by 43% Starting July
The human identity verification project Worldcoin is making significant changes to its token release structure. Starting July 24, the project will slow down the daily unlock rate of its WLD token by a combined 43%. This affects two separate unlock schedules.
Community-owned tokens will see their daily unlock rate drop by 50%, falling to 1.6 million WLD per day. Investor and Team tokens will unlock 32% more slowly, at a rate of 1.3 million per day.
The reduction in unlock rate marks the first major change to Worldcoin's token release structure since launch. The project was launched on July 24, 2023, with an immediate release of 500 million WLD tokens from the community allocation. The remaining 9.5 billion tokens were placed on continuous daily unlock schedules.
As of Friday, 4.9 billion WLD tokens had been unlocked, representing 49% of the total supply. Worldcoin's core mission is to distribute verified digital identities to individuals willing to confirm they are human.
