Worldcoin Soars as AI Interest Spikes
Worldcoin (WLD) rallied on Saturday, climbing over 7% in a day that saw the token extend its recent gains. This uptrend has seen WLD rise by 23% over the past seven days and 61% over the past month. The token's price also outpaced Bitcoin (BTC), which fell below $85,000.
Total value locked on World Chain, the layer-2 network run by the same project as Worldcoin, climbed 12.28% over 24 hours to $45.12 million, according to DefiLlama data. This increase in activity on the network may be contributing to the token's rise.
The move comes as Tools for Humanity, the company behind Worldcoin, announced that OpenAI president Greg Brockman had signed on in place of CEO Sam Altman. Altman is also the chairman of Tools for Humanity, and the move may have contributed to the token's recent gains.
Worldcoin's rise has also been linked to the growing interest in AI, with the token trading as an AI-adjacent token. The recent signing of a voluntary AI safety commitment by six executives, including OpenAI's president, may also be contributing to the token's uptrend.
