Wright Rekindles Protocol Immutability Debate in Bitcoin Community
Craig Wright has reignited debate over Bitcoin's future by calling for its base protocol to remain permanently unchanged. The self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto argued that allowing developers to modify Bitcoin's core rules gives too much power to a small group, undermining the network's original purpose.
In his view, innovation should occur at the application layer rather than through changes to Bitcoin's foundation. Wright criticized the role of Bitcoin developers, saying the network was never intended to depend on trusted individuals to manage consensus.
He claimed that nodes without mining power cannot produce blocks, determine transaction order, or enforce network rules, and that promoting home nodes as symbols of sovereignty has distracted users while economic power has shifted to exchanges, custodians, and other centralized service providers.
