WTI Oil Prices Rebound as Hormuz Talks Progress
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) US Oil prices retreated on Tuesday, down 1.28% to $80.40, after Qatar reported progress in negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
The talks between Oman and Iran have reached an advanced stage, according to Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari, who described the negotiations as being at a 'critical juncture'.
Qatar supports any agreement that guarantees the security of the Strait of Hormuz and freedom of navigation. This news has strengthened hopes for a resumption of maritime traffic and reduced some geopolitical risk premium embedded in oil prices.
The US benchmark had previously strengthened amid uncertainty surrounding a potential reopening of the Strait, but now investors are attentive to details of the framework proposed by Iran and Oman for managing traffic around the Strait.
