Wyoming Abandons LayerZero for Chainlink Amid $15B Stablecoin Exodus
The Wyoming Stable Token Commission has completed the migration of its Frontier Stable Token (FRNT) to Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), marking a significant shift away from LayerZero. This move comes after a thorough technical security review, which was prompted by a $292 million exploit suffered by Kelp DAO four months ago on its LayerZero-based bridge.
The decision follows a multi-year agreement between the Wyoming Stable Token Commission and Chainlink, under which CCIP will serve as the exclusive cross-chain infrastructure for FRNT. The Frontier Stable Token operates as a stablecoin fully backed by fiat reserves, with revenue generated from these reserves designated for the Wyoming School Foundation Program.
Industry analysts point out that this move sets a precedent, marking the first time a U.S. government agency has publicly replaced its blockchain infrastructure citing risk assessments. The migration adds to a wave of migrations totaling nearly $15 billion away from LayerZero, with custodian BitGo selecting CCIP to back $7.7 billion in Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC) just weeks ago.
