Wyoming Ditches LayerZero for Chainlink’s Secure Cross-Chain Solution

The Wyoming Stable Token Commission has ditched LayerZero's cross-chain infrastructure in favor of Chainlink's CCIP due to security lapses. The move comes after a $292 million bridge exploit linked to North Korean hackers compromised offchain infrastructure at LayerZero Labs.

Chief Security Officer Keith Lawhorn explained that the agency uncovered 'a repeated pattern of major operational security failures' at LayerZero, including mishandling production authorization and losing control of a critical private key tied to its Frontier Stable Token (FRNT).

The Commission conducted a comprehensive review of cross-chain infrastructure and compared LayerZero against Chainlink CCIP and other alternatives on six dimensions. Lawhorn noted that Chainlink's oracle network secures nearly 70% of decentralized finance activity, has processed over $33 trillion in onchain transactions, and holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification for security.

The decision to switch to Chainlink CCIP was made despite LayerZero CEO Bryan Pellegrino downplaying the issue as a minor view-only feature. The migration is now complete across all eight blockchains supporting FRNT with added reserve verification built into the new setup.
