The XRP Ledger uses a consensus protocol where participating servers agree on the state of the network without mining. Unlike Bitcoin, which relies on Proof-of-Work consensus and energy-intensive mining, the XRP Ledger's design focused on building a distributed ledger to process transactions efficiently, avoiding bottlenecks and energy demands associated with mining.
