X Brings Crypto Trading to Its Feeds With Smart Cashtags
X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is expanding its capabilities to include cryptocurrency trading. According to Nikita Bier, X's product executive, users will soon be able to trade digital assets directly within their feeds.
Smart Cashtags, a feature that allows users to paste contract addresses into posts and view live price data, was first announced in January 2026. Bier had teased the initiative as a way to bring real-time market data into the social feed.
The initial rollout will target iOS users, with plans to expand across devices. Currently, on-chain support covers assets on Solana and Ethereum.
Bier's unusual position is that he stepped down as X's head of product on August 5, but is still publicly championing the development of Smart Cashtags. This suggests that the feature is a key part of X's 'everything app' ambition to turn the platform into a Western version of WeChat.
