X Rolls Out Financial App to All U.S. Premium Subscribers, No Crypto in Sight

Share

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has expanded access to its financial app, X Money, to all U.S.-based Premium and Premium+ subscribers. This move marks a significant step in the company's ambition to integrate payments and financial services into its ecosystem.

The service, which was previously limited to a testing phase among a subset of Premium+ subscribers, now allows users to send and receive money directly within the X app using bank transfers or debit card transactions. While this is a notable expansion, it's worth noting that cryptocurrency support remains absent from the current version of X Money.

The company's leadership has expressed interest in digital assets, with CEO Elon Musk hinting at integrating cryptocurrency payments into X. However, regulatory complexities may be delaying these ambitions. Benji Taylor, the designer behind the non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet 'Family', is currently serving as head of design at X, fueling speculation about a potential native wallet or crypto payment feature.
