X Sues Over Alleged Bitcoin Account Manipulation Scheme
X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, has taken legal action against individuals it claims manipulated engagement on Bitcoin-themed accounts to collect payouts from its creator revenue-sharing program.
The lawsuit seeks to recover at least $278,000 in creator earnings that X says were fraudulently obtained through a coordinated scheme involving multiple accounts and two named defendants.
X has suspended the implicated accounts and retired its original creator revenue-sharing program, citing concerns over manipulation. The company is also seeking costs associated with investigating and remediating the issue, which it expects to be at least $100,000.
