X Tests Direct Crypto Trading from Charts
X, Elon Musk's 'everything app', is testing a feature that will allow users to trade cryptocurrencies directly from their charts. This could include popular assets like Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and XRP. Nikita Bier, former head of X's product team, confirmed the development in a recent tweet.
Bier stated that he built Cashtags, which allows users to add cryptocurrency charts directly into posts with trade buttons coming soon. He originally created this feature to bring crypto trading tools to X and led the company's product team for 13 months before leaving on August 5.
It is unclear how exactly X will handle trades, but Bier clarified that the platform won't act as a broker or handle trades itself. Instead, it may send users to an outside platform to complete their transactions. This is similar to how X works with Wealthsimple in Canada, where users are directed to the service to make actual transactions.
The crypto push comes as X expands its payments system, X Money, which offers features like up to 6% APY and a Visa card with FDIC coverage of up to $10 million. However, its product page does not mention crypto or trading services.
