Xi Jinping's US Delegation Includes Controversial BYD Amid Potential Investment Talks
Chinese President Xi Jinping is set to embark on a state visit to Washington next week, accompanied by a delegation of executives from prominent Chinese companies. The lineup includes BYD's Wang Chuanfu, Xiaomi's representatives, and Zhongji Innolight's executives. This selection suggests that the visit could lead to new investments in the US.
The delegation is modeled after the American CEO group that traveled with President Trump to Beijing in May, which included Tesla's Elon Musk, Apple's Tim Cook, and Nvidia's Jensen Huang. The Chinese government has not officially confirmed the schedule, but Trump has stated that Xi and his wife will arrive on September 24.
BYD's inclusion is somewhat contentious due to the heavy tariffs imposed on Chinese electric vehicles, which have effectively locked them out of the American market. However, Trump has indicated that if EV makers were to invest in US production, they could be allowed back into the market.
