An XRP Ledger bridge was exploited on August 9, resulting in nearly 200,000 XRP being drained from its reserves. The incident did not compromise the XRP Ledger itself, but rather a third-party bridge verification system.

According to CertiK data, the attacker exploited a flaw in the bridge software that treated transactions delivering no XRP as valid deposits. This allowed unbacked bridged tokens to trigger withdrawals of genuine XRP, resulting in a loss of approximately 199,916 XRP.

The operator of the bridge halted its operations after discovering the vulnerability and began evaluating possible remedies with the help of blockchain forensics specialists. The incident has left the bridge offline while investigators work to trace the stolen funds.
