$XRP Expands Beyond Its Native Ledger on Flare's One-Year Anniversary
The Flare network marked its FXRP token's one-year anniversary by highlighting how $XRP gained access to various financial applications beyond its native ledger.
On September 24, 2025, Flare launched FXRP, which allows $XRP to be represented on the platform while its backing tokens remain on the XRP Ledger. This made it possible for $XRP to be used in smart contract applications after verifying an XRP Ledger payment.
A total of about 145.2 million FXRP were minted, with 130 million deployed in decentralized finance (DeFi). Flare reported that $XRP is now working capital, not just programmable on the platform.
Vaults and staking products have been key to putting FXRP to work without requiring users to manage every DeFi position themselves. The MXRPY vault allocates deposits across options, arbitrage, and onchain strategies, offering varying returns based on performance. Firelight gave holders another option: depositing FXRP in exchange for stXRP, a token representing the deposited position.
$XRP has also reached Ethereum lending markets, allowing holders to supply it as collateral and borrow Ripple's $RLUSD stablecoin while retaining exposure to $XRP. Flare aims to shorten the route from an XRP Ledger wallet to supported vaults by integrating FXRP minting and vault deposits into a single signature.
