XRP Hack Spills Over to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Stellar in $18M Heist
A significant XRP hack has spilled over to other major blockchains like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Stellar. The D'CENt wallet hack, one of the year's largest XRP heists, has affected more than 7,000 wallets, with hackers draining over 12.4 million XRP.
The attack began on September 15 and continued until September 20, with thieves targeting large wallets first before using scripts to empty smaller ones. By the end of the month, a total of 6.3 million stolen XRP had been transferred to Ethereum's blockchain via THORChain.
The hack has also affected users who stored other assets in their D'CENt wallets, including Bitcoin, Tron, and Stellar (XLM). IoTrust, the maker of D'CENt, confirmed at least 110 abnormal transfer reports. In response to the incident, D'CENt is urging users to create a new recovery phrase and migrate all assets to prevent further losses.
