A recent hack targeting thousands of wallets within the XRPL ecosystem has sparked debate among developers and security experts. On September 3, 2026, attackers drained approximately 267,000 XRP from mobile wallets associated with XRP Healthcare, a project formerly known as XRPayNet.

According to former Ripple developer BiasGoose, this was not an unexpected event. He had previously rejected grant applications from the team, citing signs of fraud and artificial hype in their application.

BiasGoose stated that the product did not need its own token, and accused the project's creators of 'blatantly lying about partnerships' to secure funding. Security experts Hazard Cookie and Matt Hamilton corroborated this view, noting that auditors had been documenting architectural risks associated with the project for years.

In response to criticism, the XRP Healthcare team released a statement confirming the hack and promising an urgent investigation into the incident. They accused former Ripple developers of unethical behavior, claiming they had put their own names and money at stake while others merely mocked the risks taken by others.
