The XRP Ledger is preparing to activate a package of bug fixes on October 23, 2026, at approximately 09:34 UTC. The fixCleanup3_4_0 package has secured the required 29 validator votes, marking nine days into its two-week countdown. This package addresses several critical issues, including a loophole that could allow certain accounts to create tokens despite having only destruction permissions.
The fixes also revise vault rounding and loan-default rules, which are part of Ripple’s proposed uncollateralized lending system. However, this system remains inactive, as its lending and vault amendments have only 19 and 21 votes, respectively. Even if both amendments reach the required 29 votes today, the earliest possible activation would be early November.
The lending system, pitched to banks and payment companies since June, involves lenders depositing XRP or other tokens into vaults. Loan brokers would then lend out the money for fixed terms, with the ledger tracking repayments. Borrowers would not post collateral, relying instead on the broker’s judgment to avoid defaults. Ripple has targeted this setup at payment companies needing cash while awaiting cross-border settlement clearance.
The bug-fix package has no votes to spare, meaning one validator pulling support would restart the countdown. The current fixes are crucial for stabilizing the XRP Ledger before the lending system can be fully operational.
