XRP Ledger Demonstrates ISO 20022 Payment Capabilities
A technical demonstration has highlighted the potential of the XRP Ledger in facilitating ISO 20022-compliant payment workflows. The showcase, published by independent crypto analyst SMQKE, illustrates how the blockchain network can integrate with legacy accounting infrastructure used by financial institutions.
The demonstration used a test payment of five Swiss francs to illustrate the workflow. Once a payment is executed on the ledger, a specialized software component retrieves the transaction details and generates a file based on the ISO 20022 standard. This file can then be imported directly into widely used accounting programs.
The functionality extends to both sides of a transaction. A sender can initiate an ISO 20022-standardized payment via the XRP Ledger, while a recipient can receive that transaction and automatically convert the details into the specific file type required by their accounting system.
The relevance of the demonstration lies in the financial industry's ongoing migration to ISO 20022, a messaging standard considered essential for improving interoperability and efficiency in international banking.
SMQKE's findings do not claim that banks are currently using the XRP Ledger for ISO 20022 payments at scale. Rather, the presentation confirms the technical feasibility of such an arrangement and invites further exploration by developers and financial institutions.
