XRP Ledger Expands Beyond Payments as Lending Capabilities Take Center Stage
XRP is experiencing a resurgence in interest as it pushes past the $1.40 mark, shifting attention from its traditional payments use case to a broader XRP Ledger ecosystem.
Clarissa Yorke, Partner and KOL Manager at AgencyLaser, notes that XRP's price rebound and growing financial infrastructure are making the token 'interesting again.'
The latest XRPL upgrade introduced an updated lending framework supporting closed-ended vaults and cash-basis accounting. This addition enables fixed-term, uncollateralized loans through pooled funds, with credit assessment and risk management handled off-chain while loan activity is recorded on-chain.
Yorke highlights the significance of this development, stating that it broadens XRP's role beyond payments and adds a new layer of financial activity to the network. This could support credit markets, pooled liquidity, and tokenized financial products, underscoring the push toward on-chain finance.
The ecosystem is already building around this direction, with Ripple backing an institutional credit fund designed to issue working-capital loans in Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin to fintech and payments companies on the XRP Ledger. Clearpool provides lending infrastructure, while Cicada Partners handles borrower sourcing and credit management.
