XRP Ledger Hits 11.9M x402 Payments as AI Agents Fuel Digital Service Purchases
The XRP Ledger is approaching 12 million x402 payments, thanks to a surge in AI agent purchases of digital services.
According to J. Ayo Akinyele, head of engineering at RippleX, the blockchain development arm of Ripple, the x402 payment protocol has seen a significant increase in activity, with 11,965,947 entries in its transaction history as of October 3.
The x402 protocol allows software to pay for online access, and the increase in activity is attributed to data purchases and AI inference, including financial data, risk, and credit.
Akinyele notes that this growth is evidence of a broader role for blockchain settlement, stating that 'The latest 7-day run rate is now 500K payments per day. Pretty incredible to see how quickly this is growing as agents start to autonomously discover, pay for and consume services.'
