XRP Ledger Integrates Mastercard Verifiable Intent for Secure AI Payments
The XRP Ledger has integrated Mastercard's Verifiable Intent (VI) standard for AI payments, marking a significant advancement in its capabilities. The integration enables AI agents to make secure and seamless transactions without requiring an account or API key.
The x402 Facilitator, developed by t54.ai, allows AI agents to purchase digital goods and services using XRP or RLUSD. With the Mastercard VI credential, each transaction is cryptographically validated, proving who authorized the payment, allowed spending amount, and specific item or service being purchased.
The system uses an embedded risk engine in the XRPL Facilitator to automatically analyze every payment request, ensuring only properly authorized transactions proceed. The integration of Mastercard's Agentic Payments system brings together key verification factors, payment authorization, spending limits, and item identification, to support secure automated payments on XRP Ledger.
Ripple, the company overseeing the development of the XRP Ledger, has partnered with Mastercard to contribute to the Agent Pay for Machines program. This collaboration began in June 2026, aiming to further develop AI-based payment solutions.
