XRP Ledger Nears Major Upgrade as Institutional Interest Grows
The XRP Ledger is on the verge of a major technical upgrade, with over 80% of validators backing the BatchV1_1 amendment, also known as XLS-56. This upgrade, set to activate on October 9 if support holds, allows two to eight transactions to be grouped into a single operation. The mechanism ensures atomic execution, meaning either all transactions in a batch succeed or the entire batch rolls back. Ayo Akinyele of RippleX noted that this feature is designed to streamline securities and cash transfers, particularly for trading venues and custodians.
Meanwhile, another amendment, PermissionDelegationV1_1, missed its initial voting threshold and is now scheduled for activation on October 8. Additionally, the LendingProtocolV1_1 amendment, proposed on September 30, introduces closed credit vaults and cash-basis accounting but requires sustained validator approval before going live.
Institutional interest in the XRP Ledger is growing. Clearpool's governance voted overwhelmingly to expand onto the ledger by the fourth quarter of 2026, migrating its protocol token and settling financing through the RLUSD stablecoin. This move reflects broader efforts to integrate the XRP Ledger into more complex capital-market processes.
On the market side, XRP's price held steady at $1.52, showing little reaction to the upcoming network changes. The token remains 54% above its 52-week low and 17% down since the start of the year. Institutional vehicles saw mixed activity, with US spot XRP ETFs reporting net outflows of $3.28 million on October 1, following a net inflow of $4.07 million the previous day.
