XRP Ledger Payment Volume Surges and Plummets in a Day

XRP Ledger payment volume surged to over one billion XRP on August 1, but within a day it plummeted by about 90%, leaving questions about organic demand.

On-chain data from XRPL shows that payments exceeded one billion XRP before falling back to around 100 million XRP. While frequent spikes and declines are common on the XRP Ledger, these kinds of movements often indicate significant institutional transfers or exchange-related activity rather than long-term demand.

The dramatic decline does not necessarily mean fewer people are using the network; it's more likely a one-time event. Isolated spikes in activity that momentarily inflate transaction metrics before reverting to their long-term averages have become a recurring theme on XRPL.

XRP is currently trading at about $1.07, struggling to maintain its short-term rising trendline. The 50-day EMA is acting as overhead resistance at $1.10, and prices are being forced into a more constrained range by the 26-day exponential moving average.
