XRP Ledger Permissions Upgrade Nears Activation Amid Fixes for Critical Bug

The XRP Ledger is set to activate a feature called PermissionDelegationV1_1 on October 5, if at least 28 of its 35 trusted validators continue to support it. This upgrade would allow accounts to delegate limited duties, such as making payments or approving customers, without handing over control of their keys.

The revised upgrade fixes a flaw in an earlier version that could have allowed attackers to drain victims' XRP balances through unauthorized transaction fees.

PermissionDelegationV1_1 is the network's second attempt at introducing this feature. The original version contained a critical bug that could let an attacker make another account pay fees for transactions it had not properly signed.
