XRP Ledger Prepares for DTCC with Major Institutional Upgrade
The XRP Ledger is upgrading to prepare for the DTCC's tokenization working group, according to a recent announcement. The upgrade, version 3.3.0, introduces several new features, including privacy functionality, batch transaction support, and sponsored fees. This is seen as a major institutional upgrade package, designed to support regulated financial activity.
The new privacy feature allows institutional participants to transact without exposing counterparty or amount information to all ledger observers. This is a significant development, as it gives institutions greater control over transaction information and allows them to keep certain metadata confidential.
The upgrade is connected to several institutional initiatives involving Ripple, including the Mastercard pilot and the DTCC working group participation. The report states that the privacy feature was 'explicitly designed for the compliance-sensitive institutional settlement use cases that Ripple has been building toward.'
The XRP Ledger 3.3.0 also introduces batch transaction support, which allows users to execute multiple operations through a single ledger submission. This can simplify settlement processes that require several related actions.
Sponsored fees are another new feature, which allows institutions to pay transaction fees on behalf of their clients. This removes the need for clients to hold XRP to interact with the ledger.
