XRP Ledger Upgrades Permission Delegation Feature with Second Attempt
The XRP Ledger is set to upgrade its permission delegation feature, allowing accounts to split payment and compliance duties without handing over control.
The upgrade, called PermissionDelegationV1_1, has entered a 14-day countdown after being supported by 29 of the network's 35 trusted validators on September 21st. It will activate on October 5th if support remains above 80% throughout the period, or at least 28 validators continue to back it.
The feature lets an account divide its authority into different roles. For example, a stablecoin issuer could grant permission for an internet-connected compliance system to approve customer accounts while keeping the keys offline. A separate operations account can also be given permission to make payments without gaining control over the keys or granting further permissions.
This is the second attempt at introducing the feature, which was previously withdrawn due to a flaw that could have allowed attackers to drain victims' XRP balances through high-fee transactions.
