XRP Ledger's Permission Delegation Upgrade Enters Final Countdown

The XRP Ledger is on the verge of a significant protocol upgrade that could reshape how institutions issue and manage regulated digital assets. The PermissionDelegationV1_1 amendment has entered its two-week activation window, which began on September 21, after securing 29 validator votes in favor.

According to data from XRPScan, the earliest possible activation would occur at 11:18 AM UTC on October 5, provided validator support holds above the required 80% threshold without interruption. If backing slips to 80% or below at any point during the window, the proposal fails and the 14-day countdown resets from zero.

The amendment aims to harden permission controls across the network, replacing the original Permission Delegation feature that contained a critical flaw. It serves as part of the xrpld 3.3.0 release, which is coded under the XLS-75 technical standard.

Lauren Berta, Ripple's stablecoin product lead, described the upgrade as unlocking meaningful new capabilities for institutions issuing regulated assets on the ledger. The Permission Delegation feature lets account holders assign specific authorities to other accounts, creating operational flexibility while preserving core security safeguards.
