XRP Price Plummets as Senate Vote Looms and Bond Yields Soar
The price of cryptocurrency XRP plummeted by approximately 5.3% on September 15, as investors grappled with a key Senate vote and rising bond yields.
The CLARITY Act, which aims to create a regulatory framework for using stablecoins and other digital assets in banking and traditional finance, was up for a vote in the Senate that day. The bill requires 60 votes to advance, but it's unclear whether it will pass.
XRP is closely tied to Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin, which could be impacted by the CLARITY Act. Higher bond yields also weighed on XRP, as investors seek safer returns in bonds rather than speculative assets like cryptocurrency.
The 10-year Treasury yield topped 5% for the first time in nearly 20 years, while markets are pricing a 93% chance of a Federal Reserve rate hike this week. These headwinds have pushed down XRP's price and raised concerns about its long-term viability.
