XRP Prices Plummet After Senate Blocks Crypto Bill
XRP's price plummeted by over 8% after the Senate blocked the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a key crypto bill that aimed to provide regulatory clarity for digital assets. The token's price fell as low as $1.27 before recovering to around $1.29 at press time.
The bill's failure to pass is seen as a setback for the cryptocurrency industry, which has been pushing for clearer regulations. However, Ripple's CEO Brad Garlinghouse downplayed the significance of the vote, stating that it does not change the company's commercial trajectory or momentum.
Ripple's confidence in its regulatory standing is partly based on the SEC and CFTC's March interpretation of federal securities laws, which classifies XRP as a digital commodity. This classification remains intact despite the Senate setback, giving Ripple an advantage over other players in the industry that lack regulatory clarity.
