XRP has lost more than half its value over the past year despite Ripple's global expansion. As of September 15, 2026, XRP was trading at around $1.42 after plummeting to a low under $1.00 in summer 2026.

The introduction of RLUSD, a fiat-backed stablecoin from Ripple, threatens to sideline XRP as the primary bridging tool in the payment network. Institutional clients can now settle cross-border corridors using RLUSD, which eliminates foreign exchange volatility and potentially makes XRP redundant.

Ripple's business model has expanded globally, but its affiliated digital asset trades like a distressed asset. Analyst Anders Bylund suggests that buying XRP based on Ripple's corporate expansion is not the best investment strategy. Instead, waiting for an initial public offering (IPO) could be a smarter play, allowing investors to buy proper stock and participate in Ripple's success.
