XRP Surges 37% as Record ETF Inflows and Institutional Positioning Drive Growth
In August, XRP saw its best month since the SEC settlement, gaining 37% on the back of record ETF inflows and institutional positioning.
The rally began after a weak start to the month, which saw XRP fall 6.8% in the first two weeks as part of a broader risk-off move driven by a strengthening yen carry trade unwind and weak manufacturing data from China.
However, three key catalysts sparked a reversal on August 18 and 22: the US Treasury's announcement of an expansion of its bond buyback program, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse's attendance at a White House crypto policy summit, and on-chain data revealing massive whale repositioning.
The result was a rapid move from $1.00 to $1.69 in less than a week, with XRP briefly touching its six-month high before retreating to the $1.35-$1.50 range due to profit-taking.
The 37% monthly gain puts August as the third-strongest month for XRP since 2017 and 2021, behind only those two years.
A closer look at ETF inflows reveals that they are telling a different story than the price action. During the week ending August 28, seven US-listed spot XRP ETFs recorded $110.49 million in net inflows, their strongest weekly haul of 2026 by a wide margin.
This surge pushed cumulative net inflows past $1.66 billion, with total net assets climbing to $1.44 billion across all funds. Trading activity also spiked alongside it, with $363.03 million in weekly volume, the busiest stretch since these products launched in November 2025.
The real story behind XRP's price action is not just about momentum but about what is happening on-chain. The network is seeing massive growth in institutional volume, driven by the increasing popularity of $RLUSD as a compliance-native stablecoin designed for institutional settlement.
$RLUSD has surpassed $1 billion in circulating supply on the XRP Ledger and accounts for 82% of the ledger's entire stablecoin market. Total $RLUSD supply across all chains hit $2.08 billion, crossing the $2 billion threshold since its launch in December 2024.
The growth trajectory is difficult to ignore, with Ripple minting more than $540 million on the XRP Ledger over the past 30 days alone.
The settlement numbers back this up, with the XRP Ledger settling $159.9 billion in the first half of 2026 and $RLUSD generating approximately $9 billion in transfer volume, accounting for 90% of all stablecoin volume on XRPL.
This is not just about DeFi arriving; it's already processing institutional volume at scale. What it needs now is for the infrastructure underneath that volume to become production-grade.
