XRP Tops South Korea Crypto Trading Amid Bank and AI Interest
XRP has surged to the top of South Korea's cryptocurrency trading market, surpassing Bitcoin and Ethereum in trading volume, according to CoinMarketCap. The token's price has remained steady in the $1.45, $1.52 range despite broader market pressures, driven by a local surge in activity. This rise coincides with the conclusion of the XRP Seoul 2026 conference, where a regional strategy for distributed ledger technology was presented.
The token's dominance in South Korea is attributed to several key developments. Kakao Bank, a major South Korean digital bank with 27 million customers, approved a plan to deploy its own blockchain infrastructure in 2027, exploring the integration of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) for custody services and real-world asset tokenization. Other banks, including Woori Bank and K Bank, have also expressed interest in the ledger. To support these initiatives, the XRP Asia hub was announced, led by Sabrina Tachdjian.
Additionally, liquidity has flowed into the Agentic Economy sector, focusing on AI agent micropayments. Infrastructure startup t54.ai, funded by Franklin Templeton, reported over 12 million autonomous robot transactions over XRPL using the x402 protocol. Representatives confirmed that this AI infrastructure is being prepared for automation, with XRP and the upcoming RLUSD stablecoin set to be used as settlement units.
Analysts caution that XRP's lead in the local market is influenced by domestic regulatory factors rather than a global shortage of the asset. South Korea's ban on margin trading forces retail traders to trade only on the spot market, artificially boosting individual assets' turnover rankings. The real impact of the banks' programs on the token's market value is expected to materialize when full-scale platforms launch in 2027.
