Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz recently posted a joke about his college years that sparked interest in the XRP community.

The joke referenced electrical engineering terminology, specifically 'shorts,' which refers to short circuits. In financial markets, it also implies betting against an asset's price rally.

XRP traders noticed the connection and interpreted Schwartz's post as a signal to reconsider their positions.

In August, data from Hyperliquid showed that 16 of the top 20 XRP traders by position size held short positions. These traders had entered between $1.22 and $1.52 using 20x cross margin leverage, leaving them with unrealized losses after XRP surged over 50% in under three days.
