XRPL Amendment Process Limits Ripple's Control
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has a decentralized amendment process that prevents any single organization from imposing protocol changes without broad community consensus.
Ripple, the company at the center of the XRP ecosystem, cannot force changes to the XRPL without the support of more than 80% of trusted network validators for at least two consecutive weeks.
This process was demonstrated in the recent BatchV1_1 upgrade, which required strong and consistent validator support before activation on September 29.
The amendment process ensures that changes to the XRPL cannot proceed without sufficient community and validator buy-in, sustaining decentralization and preventing any single entity from exerting control over the network.
