XRPL tops Ethereum in tokenized commodity market with $2.2 billion inflow
XRP Ledger (XRPL) has taken the lead in the tokenized commodity market, surpassing Ethereum with a significant $2.2 billion inflow for the year 2026. This shift marks a pivotal moment in the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization space, where XRPL is now the preferred network for industrial businesses seeking to tokenize commodities and physical assets.
The data, compiled by analytics platforms Token Terminal and RWA Foundation, highlights XRPL's dominance in the sector. Ethereum, once the leader, attracted $1.6 billion in capital inflows during the same period. Other major networks like Avalanche and BNB Chain lagged far behind, with $334.5 million and $57.5 million, respectively. XRPL's rise is attributed to its architectural advantages, such as the IOU mechanism, which simplifies the tokenization process and reduces transaction fees to fractions of a cent, with settlement times between 3 and 5 seconds.
Industrial players, particularly in the energy sector, have driven XRPL's growth. Latin American company Justoken launched tokenized electricity-generation contracts (JMWH) on XRPL, contributing to a sharp increase in activity. Monthly RWA transfer volume grew over 224 times, peaking at $7.03 billion, while the total represented asset value rose 56% to $4.52 billion. XRPL's stablecoin market capitalization also climbed to $1.25 billion, largely due to the introduction of the RLUSD token, with monthly stablecoin turnover reaching $5.01 billion.
XRPL's influence extends beyond commodities, attracting traditional institutions like Franklin Templeton, Ondo Finance, and Middle Eastern real estate company DAMAC. Despite Ethereum's lead in overall RWA value locked, driven by tokenized U.S. government bonds, XRPL has established itself as the go-to network for tokenizing industrial commodities and physical assets.
