XRP's $5 Price Target Hinges on Sustained Demand and Regulatory Clarity
XRP needs to experience significant growth to reach $5, which would put its market capitalization at around $300 billion. However, this is a challenging goal considering the current market dynamics and Ripple's supply management strategies.
The first hurdle is demand that removes XRP from circulation. Currently, only 1.7% of the total supply is held in exchange-traded funds (ETFs), while $2.4 billion worth of RLUSD is in circulation on the XRP Ledger. This limited usage means that future buyers will have fewer coins available, which can push the price up further.
Ripple's escrow system adds to the complexity of XRP's supply dynamics. The company releases up to 1 billion new XRP each month from its 31.3 billion holdings in escrow accounts. However, Ripple often re-locks between 60% and 90% of these monthly releases, resulting in a net addition of around 200 million to 400 million new XRP to the circulating supply.
XRP's price movement is also influenced by broader market trends. In September, Bitcoin and Ethereum saw significant gains, but XRP outpaced them with a 22% increase. However, this uptick suggests that XRP's price movement is more a function of the overall market rather than its own strength.
