XRP's Post-Election Surge Unlikely to Repeat Amid Midterm Conditions
XRP's post-election surge in 2024 is one of crypto's most dramatic political trades. The asset climbed from $0.50 to $3.40, a 580% increase, but that setup may never exist again.
The midterms carry different conditions, and the coin is currently trading at $1.41, down 23.14% year-to-date and 52.74% over the past year.
The election wasn't the sole catalyst for XRP's rise; regulatory challenges had been ongoing since the SEC's December 2020 lawsuit against Ripple. Late in 2024, the market began to price in a more favorable regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies in the US.
XRP's value rose after Trump's victory and Gary Gensler's resignation announcement, which were seen as signs that the Ripple case would soon conclude. However, the larger move originated from legal developments: the settlement between Ripple and the SEC enabled XRP to reach $3.65 on July 18, 2025.
The SEC dropping its appeals in August led to another surge, this time 23% to $3.38. History highlights XRP's volatility; it fell 33% in February 2025 and dropped 35% during the fourth quarter to close 2025 at $1.87.
XRP's supply has nearly doubled since 2018, from roughly 34 billion to about 63 billion. Ripple continues to release up to a billion XRP from escrow monthly, leading to hundreds of millions entering the market over the next nine years.
