XRP's Price Ceiling: Is $4 the New $1000?
XRP investors are eagerly anticipating the cryptocurrency's potential to soar to new heights, with some predicting it could reach $10, $100, or even $1,000. However, a closer look at XRP's past performance and market dynamics suggests that its ceiling price may be much lower than expected.
In over 14 years of trading, XRP has never traded above $3.84, a price it reached in January 2018. This is particularly surprising given XRP's explosive breakout performances in 2021 and 2024, when it soared by 275% and 238%, respectively. Even last year, amid the excitement surrounding a pro-crypto administration, XRP's high-water mark was only $3.65.
So, what's keeping XRP's price down? One key factor is its capped supply of 100 billion coins, which makes any calculation of future market cap fraught with peril. If XRP were to hit $10, for example, its implied market cap would be a staggering $1 trillion, surpassing Bitcoin's current market cap and making XRP the second-most valuable cryptocurrency in the world. A price of $100 would be even more problematic, implying a market cap of $10 trillion, higher than the market cap of any publicly traded company in the world.
