XRP's Quantum Shield: Key Rotation Feature Leaves Bitcoin Exposed
The XRP Ledger has been found to have a significant advantage over Bitcoin when it comes to quantum computing threats, thanks to its built-in key rotation feature. According to a recent audit conducted by Vet on the network, only 0.03% of XRP's circulating supply is vulnerable to quantum attacks compared to an estimated 35% of BTC.
The audit found that roughly 300,000 XRP accounts holding 2.4 billion tokens have never sent a transaction and are therefore considered quantum-safe by default. However, two dormant whale accounts holding a combined 21 million XRP were identified as exposed, having transacted at least five years ago and not rotated their signing keys since.
The XRPL's key rotation feature allows users to swap their signing key without moving funds, providing an added layer of defense against quantum attacks. Mayukha Vadari, a staff software engineer at Ripple, also pointed out the ledger's escrow time-lock mechanism as another security measure.
