Zcash Advocacy Group Launches Lobbying Effort in Washington
A new advocacy group focused on Zcash has registered to lobby U.S. lawmakers on crypto policy, effective October 1. Pretty Good Policy for Zcash, or PGPZ, lists executive director Divij Pandya as its sole lobbyist. The group’s priorities include the CLARITY Act and two digital asset tax bills, with $750,000 in Zcash Community Grants funding supporting its first year of policy work.
PGPZ emerged from Pretty Good Policy for Crypto, an initiative originally developed by Electric Coin Co. The group aims to give Zcash a dedicated policy voice in Washington, focusing on financial privacy, developer protections, and public education. It operates independently and is not affiliated with the Zcash Foundation.
The CLARITY Act, one of PGPZ’s main targets, aims to create a federal market structure for digital commodities. The Senate failed to advance the bill on September 15 after a 49-50 vote. PGPZ also plans to address tax policy through the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act and the ADAPT Act, though it has not disclosed specific amendments it supports.
PGPZ’s $750,000 grant will cover operating costs, staffing, professional services, and policy events. The group plans to hold congressional meetings, policy briefs, and workshops, with an upcoming Washington fly-in and Cypherpunk Policy Dinner scheduled for October 14.
