Zcash Advocacy Group PGPZ Registers as U.S. Lobbyist to Shape Crypto Policy
The privacy-focused cryptocurrency advocacy group Pretty Good Policy for Zcash (PGPZ) has officially registered as a lobbyist in the U.S., marking a significant step in the crypto industry’s push to shape digital asset policy. The registration, effective October 1, lists Executive Director Divij Pandya as the sole registered lobbyist. PGPZ aims to influence key legislative priorities, including the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and two digital asset tax proposals.
PGPZ was founded in June 2023, evolving from the 2022 initiative "Pretty Good Policy for Crypto" launched by Electric Coin Co. The organization has previously hosted policy roundtables in Washington and organized a congressional briefing on cryptocurrency technology in 2023. Paul Brigner, PGPZ’s founder and Chief Policy & Regulatory Officer at ZODL, emphasized the group’s mission to ensure Zcash has a "serious, organized, and credible policy presence in Washington." He highlighted that policymakers' decisions will determine the future of privacy-preserving digital cash.
In August, the Zcash Community Grants program approved a $750,000 grant to fund PGPZ’s first year of operations. This financial backing underscores the commitment to advancing Zcash’s role in the broader digital asset ecosystem. The move reflects the growing efforts of the privacy-oriented cryptocurrency community to engage with regulators and lawmakers to safeguard the legal use and public interest of privacy-focused digital currencies.
