Zcash Advocacy Group Registers as U.S. Lobbyist
Pretty Good Policy for Zcash (PGPZ), an advocacy group focused on the Zcash cryptocurrency, has registered as a lobbyist in the United States, with its registration becoming effective on October 1. Divij Pandya, the executive director, is listed as the sole registered lobbyist. This move highlights the growing efforts of the privacy-focused crypto ecosystem to influence U.S. digital asset policies.
The registration documents list the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and two digital asset tax proposals as key lobbying priorities. PGPZ was established in June 2023, evolving from the Pretty Good Policy for Crypto initiative, which was launched by Electric Coin Co. in 2022. The group has previously organized policy roundtables in Washington and a congressional briefing on crypto technology in 2023.
Paul Brigner, the founder of PGPZ and chief policy and regulatory officer of ZODL, emphasized the group's mission to ensure Zcash has a 'serious, organized, and credible' presence in Washington. He noted that policy decisions could determine the future of privacy-protecting digital cash, including its existence, legality, and public utility. PGPZ's role is to advocate for Zcash's understanding and representation in these discussions.
In August, the Zcash Community Grants approved a $750,000 allocation to fund PGPZ's first year of operations, underscoring the community's support for the advocacy efforts.
