Zcash Advocacy Group Registers to Lobby U.S. Government on Crypto Rules and Taxation
A Zcash-focused advocacy group called Pretty Good Policy for Zcash (PGPZ) has registered to lobby the U.S. government on crypto market rules, taxation, financial privacy, and developer protections. The organization, which emerged in June from a policy initiative originally developed by Electric Coin Co., has registered as an in-house lobbyist with Executive Director Divij Pandya as the sole lobbyist. PGPZ's federal registration is effective October 1, and its lobbying priorities include the CLARITY Act, two digital asset tax bills, and developer protections.
The group plans to engage policymakers through policymaker meetings, policy briefs, congressional events, and Zcash-focused regulatory responses. PGPZ's first year of policy work will be supported by $750,000 in Zcash Community Grants funding, allocated for operating costs, staffing, and professional services. The organization will focus on conditions affecting the Zcash ecosystem instead of commercial interests belonging to one company.
PGPZ's lobbying efforts come as the U.S. government continues to debate crypto regulations. The Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act on September 15 after a 49-50 vote, and the organization plans to propose amendments or other legislative language where it believes rules could affect privacy-preserving technology.
