Zcash Bolsters User Privacy with $80K Ledger Integration
Zcash has taken a significant step towards improving user privacy by funding Ledger's integration of Ironwood, its new protocol, for $80,000. This move is expected to make it easier for users to store their ZEC privately as the network transitions from Orchard.
The security upgrade will be particularly important in addressing the vulnerability that Orchard had, which could have threatened the coin's supply without being detectable by users. Ironwood takes a different approach by thoroughly checking its core rules before relying on them, with over 2,700 theorems formally checked to cover key aspects of balance protection.
The integration with Ledger is expected to improve access to Ironwood, but wider adoption still faces challenges. Currently, only a few Ledger devices have been upgraded to support the new protocol, while most software wallets and exchanges remain unsupported.
