Zcash Breaks $1,000 Barrier on Institutional Interest and Futures Trading
Zcash has broken past the $1,000 mark after months of uncertainty, following a sharp decline in June due to a counterfeiting vulnerability. Despite this setback, ZEC has rapidly recovered, driven by various factors including institutional engagement.
The asset's price momentum is now heavily influenced by Grayscale's attempt to convert its Zcash investment product into a spot ETF, which brought renewed attention to the asset in August. Futures trading also contributed significantly to the rally, with open interest reaching $1.76 billion and 24-hour futures volume exceeding $9.54 billion during the surge.
The rapid climb pushed speculative positioning back into focus, as more than $34 million in short positions were reportedly liquidated when ZEC breached the $1,000 threshold. This additional demand accelerated the breakout above the psychologically significant level.
While the uptrend remains robust, technical indicators suggest that ZEC is becoming stretched, with a daily relative strength index (RSI) approaching 80 and moving into overbought territory. However, the latest price action does not necessarily point to an imminent reversal, and market watchers continue to monitor both technical and fundamental signals closely.
