Zcash Cofounder Predicts Crypto's Next Phase: Privacy and Post-Quantum Security Take Center Stage
Zcash cofounder Eli Ben-Sasson believes that crypto's next phase will prioritize two key features: privacy and post-quantum security. In a recent X post, Ben-Sasson identified these features as essential for widespread adoption, noting that they must be easy to use and affordable.
The focus on privacy comes as blockchain adoption grows, with researchers and developers exploring post-quantum cryptography to prepare for a future where powerful quantum computers could threaten current cryptographic schemes. In August, StarkWare, a startup co-founded by Ben-Sasson, successfully mined the first quantum-safe Bitcoin transaction on the mainnet.
Zcash is also making strides in this area, with shielded activity reaching a four-year high at 62,379 transactions per week. The network's next major upgrade, NU7, is set to be activated on November 5, featuring improved block time and enhanced security measures.
