Zcash Emerges as Potential Challenger to Bitcoin's Dominance
Grayscale's research report suggests Zcash (ZEC) could challenge Bitcoin's (BTC) dominance as financial privacy becomes increasingly valuable in the age of artificial intelligence. According to Zach Pandl, head of research at Grayscale, Zcash has 'second mover advantages' that could help it overcome Bitcoin's entrenched network effects.
Pandl argues that financial privacy is crucial in a world where AI systems are becoming better at analyzing financial activity at scale. Zcash can shield transaction information, which Grayscale believes will become increasingly valuable as AI-powered surveillance grows.
Despite its 19-fold increase over the past year, Zcash remains valued at less than 1% of Bitcoin's market capitalization. However, Grayscale sees this disparity as evidence of further upside if Zcash can capture market share.
Cypherpunk Technologies, a Nasdaq-listed privacy technology company, has expanded its Zcash exposure by acquiring a mining fleet from Winklevoss Capital in a $33.33 million equity-based transaction. This operation is now online across US facilities and produces about 4.2 GSol/s of Equihash hashrate, accounting for roughly 18% of the Zcash network's total computing power.
