Zcash Engineers Cut Private Transaction Time to Under 200ms with New Toolkit
Zcash engineers have made significant progress in scaling private transactions on their network. The team behind Zakura, a Zcash node launched in July as part of a broader scaling effort, has released an open-source cryptography toolkit called Zakura Common. This upgrade reduces the time required to create private transactions from over three seconds to under 200 milliseconds in some cases.
The new stack accelerates hashing, wallet syncing and node verification, and is already used by Zakura 1.3.0 and Vizor Wallet. On mobile devices, Zakura says the new stack makes transaction creation more than 14 times faster, while desktop performance improves by more than five times.
The upgrade does not require a Zcash network upgrade, allowing wallet developers to adopt Zakura Common on the existing network. The software can also handle the proposed 25-second block times associated with Zcash's next major upgrade, NU7. This gives the toolkit relevance beyond today's transaction-construction bottleneck.
