Zcash ETF Becomes Crypto Market Steadying Force Amid Macro Uncertainty
The crypto market is experiencing an unusual stability, thanks to the performance of Grayscale's spot Zcash ETF. Despite Bitcoin trading near $78,900 and struggling to reclaim the $79,000 mark, this particular fund has seen a surge in demand.
Just two weeks after its NYSE Arca debut, the ZEC assets have exceeded $500 million. This stability is attributed to the fact that anyone with a brokerage account can now own exposure to Zcash without touching a wallet, thanks to Coinbase as custodian and BNY Mellon administering the fund.
Zach Pandl, head of research at Grayscale, suggests that this trend could continue, predicting that if ZEC captures just 10% of Bitcoin's market share, it could reach $8,100. This is a significant increase from its current price and would make it one of the top cryptocurrencies.
However, there are opposing forces at play in the market. Traders now price a 58% chance that the Fed will hike interest rates at its September 15-16 meeting, fueled by the recent jobs report and sticky inflation worry. Additionally, oil prices have risen to $99.68 due to escalating Middle East tensions.
The intersection of these macroeconomic factors with the golden cross signal in Bitcoin's price chart makes for an interesting dynamic. The golden cross has historically preceded a three-month gain of 24.9% in Bitcoin's price, but this time it coincides with a potential Fed hike and rising oil prices. The outcome is uncertain, but one thing is clear: the market will be watching closely.
